Essay on water pollution

Water pollution is the dirtying of water mostly by human activities. Some of these activities are dumping of garbage, disposal of sewage, disposal of factory waste into the water bodies. Rivers, wells, lakes, and ponds are some sources of water. These sources get polluted due to these Activities. some other activities such as bathing in rivers, washing clothes also add to water pollution. These activities  make unfit for human use.

we have studied that the ground groundwater is replenished by the seepage of rain water. The water table does not get effected, as long as we draw water, which can be restored by natural processes. But water table may go down, if the amount of used by us is more than the amount that can be replenished. Nowadays, it is seen that the water table in our country is Constantly going down and causing shortage of ground water.

This may happen due to many reason such as, increase in population, industrial and agricultural activities, deforestation, etc.

WATER CONSERVATION

Only a small function of water available on the earth is fit for use for plants, Animal and humans. So, we should conserve water and use it judiciously. Water conversion is the practice of  using water efficiently to reduce unnecessary water usage. The purpose of water conservation is to increase the amount of clean water. Water conservation is important because fresh clean water is a limited resource, as well as a costly one. We must keep in mind the following point to save water.

  • Use only as much water as you require. Do not waste.
  • While brushing, do not leave the tap running. Turn off the tap after use.
  • Ensure that there is o leakage of water in taps, pipes, etc.
  • Use a bucket instead of the shower to take a bath.
  • Reuse as much water as possible. For example, water used in the kitchen for washing vegetables, etc. may be used for watering the plants.

RAINWATER HARVESTING

When it rains, most of the water goes waste running into drains and taking the topmost fertile layer of soil along with it. We can reduce this wastage of water through rainwater harvesting. it is a technique in which water tanks and reserves and used. if water tanks and reserves are expensive and difficult to maintain, we can even dig huge pits and make open reservoirs. These reservoirs would not only collect the rainwater but also allow it to seep into the ground and raise the groundwater level. This stored water can be used in farming and for many domestic purposes.

GROUND WATER

If we dig a hole in the ground, we will see that the soil is moist. This shows that presence of water under the ground. If we go on digging deeper and deeper. we will see that all spaces between particles of soil and gaps between rocks and filled with water. This level of water is known as water table. The water table various from place to place and it can change at a given place. In some places it may be at a depth of less than a meter. While at other places it may be several meters below the ground. The water found below the water table is known as Groundwater.
